From 9Round Member to Multi-Unit Franchise Owner

Empowering others to grow stronger physically and mentally is the core mission of everything we do at 9Round—for Women’s Small Business Month, we’re especially proud to recognize the strong women who are the driving force behind this mission.

9Round is a Champion for Women in Business

Each of our locations are locally and owned and operated by everyday people in your community, and we proud to say that nearly 50 percent of our franchise owners are women.

We know the importance of creating space where women are leaders, role models, and changemakers. Their leadership doesn’t just shape the success of their gyms—it inspires members to push harder, believe in themselves, and discover strength they didn’t know they had.

From building supportive communities to breaking barriers in business ownership, these women prove that empowerment starts with showing up and continues with lifting others along the way.

Like many people walking into the studio for the first time, Lynnette Spinelli wasn’t sure if 9Round would be the right fit for her. Luckily, she ended up at a 9Round location in Charlotte, NC, where she knocked out her first workout—a workout that would end up changing her life.

Spinelli quickly fell in love with 9Round’s 30-minute workouts, and over time, she said it helped her get in the best shape of her life in her early 50’s. Eventually, she found herself working at the studio she loved so much, but then her and her husband, Perry, were relocating to Wilmington, NC.

Unfortunately, there were no 9Round studios in Wilmington to help her continue her fitness journey. But Spinelli decided to explore 9Round’s fitness franchise opportunity and opened her first studio, 9Round Wilmington, NC – Market Street, with her husband in 2018.

In 2019, she became a multi-unit franchise owner by expanding her 9Round community with the opening of 9Round Wilmington, NC – Masonboro Loop Rd. Today, she continues to help her community grow stronger, physically and mentally, at her two 9Round studios.

To her, the best part of running a studio is seeing her members achieve their fitness goals and tap into their inner strength. “We have definitely had the good fortune of changing lives over the years, and it is incredibly gratifying. That’s what keeps me going on the hard days,” she says.

Spinelli admits that owning a business is challenging. She says each day is a new adventure where you are pulled in many different directions while wearing many different hats.

Turning her brain off when she’s not working is one of the hardest parts of running a business, but after more than seven years of business ownership, she’s found ways to build a better work-life balance over the years, including always taking at least one day off on Sunday.

For anyone interested in running a business, Spinelli has a simple but powerful message: “Make sure you have a solid understanding of your ‘why’ for starting a business. Are your passion and purpose strong enough to keep you going through the challenging days?”
