About the team
Tim is a Chinese-born Canadian with over 20 years of martial arts experience in various disciplines. He is a graduate from the University of Winnipeg... in Athletic Therapy and is a lover of all sports. Round 4 is Tim's favourite as he loves practicing the many variations of the side kick from the simple defensive stop kick to the explosive spinning sidekicks. In terms of active rests, expect any kind of push-up variations such as tricep push-ups, diamond push-ups, stacked push-ups, and dive bomber push-ups from him. Tim's favourite indulgence is CHOCOLATE - but there’s also healthier - dark chocolate. He is the owner/operator at 9Round Downtown Winnipeg and loves helping his community. Fun Fact: Tim once did a biomechanics study comparing Bruce Lee's 1 inch punch vs. a Tae Kwon Do cross punch. More

Ryan was born and raised in Winnipeg but has been living abroad mainly in Asia for the past 15 years - yes, the food was that good! He speaks English..., Filipino, and (a bit of) Korean. Ryan has a diverse background in martial arts, is an expert in kettlebell training and a divemaster. Round 3 and 8 are his favourites as he says, "Speed and precision will always beat power and strength!" Be ready to walk the plank and dive as core strength is key - we really meant planks and dive bombers! Ryan enjoys turning member's weaknesses into strengths by (cheerfully) yelling at them repeatedly - "You're welcome!". Fun Fact: Ryan holds a Master's in Sarcasm & Hashtags! More
Mandy is a born and raised Winnipegger, but has lived all over Canada and recently started learning Spanish. She grew up playing a variety of sports ...and went on to play for the provincial rugby team and basketball team in university. Mandy comes to 9Round with years of experience in personal training and a degree in holistic nutrition. Round 1 is her favourite, as she loves skipping and any plyometric exercises! In terms of active rest, squat jumps and plank walks are on the menu. Her indulgence of choice doesn’t get any more Canadian than her love for pancakes. She also loves to hike and paddle board (during the summer!). Fun Fact: Mandy’s ultimate goal is to go through the whole circuit punching and kicking while skipping her rope! More
JEAN LUC (he/him)
Jean Luc was born in Rwanda and has lived in Kenya and Ethiopia. He fluently speaks Kinyarwanda, English as well as some French. Since his childhood, ...he has gravitated towards martial arts such as karate and taekwondo as well as any recreational sports he find. Jean Luc moved to Canada for grade 12, where he attended a Mennonite school. He is working towards obtaining a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Manitoba. He first joined the 9Round Family as a member to better his health and later became a trainer. JL is a student by nature! Round 9 is his favourite, as core is key and it is the last push in your workout. With Jean Luc, you are in deep water! Expect superman swimmers to keep your back in swimming shape for lake season! To recharge, he likes to play pool and to go for drives in the countryside. Fun fact: To get on his good side, bring him a puppy as JL is a huge animal lover! More
Val is originally from Azerbaijan and fluently speaks Russian, Azeri and English. He has 6 years of experience as an amateur boxer, 12 years of fitne...ss boxing, and 2 years of coaching. The trainer led drill is Val's favourite, as he loves keeping members on their toes and fully focused. Push-ups, squat jumps, and burpees are his active rest of choice to activate the major muscle groups. From mud runs to dragon boat races, Val loves any new activity that helps him push his limits and overcome procrastination. Fun fact: Val once reached the red heart rate zone while mopping the gym floor! More
Steph is a born and raised Winnipegger with over ten years of experience in various karate styles. Since her childhood, she has always been involved ...in recreational sports and now focuses on HIIT training and weightlifting. Round 4 is Steph's favourite as it is the first round with the heavy bags where you can perfect a combo by changing rhythms and increasing speed and strength. Expect any kind of core exercise when it comes to active rests with Steph! Sit-ups anyone?! Her indulgence of choice are ice cream and pizza! Fun fact: Big nerd alert! Loves animation, D&D, video games, and comics! More
Brandon was born and raised in Manitoba. Since his youth, he has always loved playing sports and explored various martial arts training throughout the... years. Round 3 is his favourite as striking a quick-moving target with speed and precision always keeps one alert! Better be ready to sculpt those legs and engage that core as Brandon loves to call wall-sits for during the active rest! When he isn’t sharing his love of fitness with members, Brandon loves jamming to various genres of music. Fun fact: Resident artist! He has performed on stages numerous times as part of a band, in plays, and even improv comedy sketches. More

Joseph, who prefers to be called Ding, is a born and raised Winnipegger. He can speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and some French. Ding is a registered massa...ge therapist who loves staying active by playing football and doing weight training workouts. Round 9 is his favourite as he loves coming up with creative variations of core exercises by making simple but challenging adjustments. In terms of active rest, be ready to hold those three-way push-ups to build upper body strength. Ding likes to unwind by playing video games and savouring spicy food. Fun fact: We are pretty sure Ding was a Ninja Turtle named Michaelangelo in another life! More

What do I like best, well there isn't just one thing I like best. I have never in my 25 years of exercising enjoyed and been excited for 30 minutes of my day then I do now. I like the atmosphere, I ... like the rounds, I like not being able to walk properly or hold a pen the next day, and most of all I like, or love, the trainers, THAT is what makes it so enjoyable and gives me a skip in my step as I head to the gym.
