The Self-Policing Warm Up at 9Round
Dec. 29, 2018
One question we get periodically from 9Round clients is, “Why isn’t there a warm up round in the 9Round workout?”
To answer that, let’s look at the warm up a little more in-depth. Over the years I’ve heard fitness professionals across the globe have pretty similar answers when asked the purpose of the warm up.
Some will say to elevate the body temperature by at least one degree. Others say, to get the fluids in the body and connective tissues moving in order to lubricate joints and other moving parts of the body.
In our opinion, the warm up is a prep for the body and mind. Does there have to be a separate round to prep the body and mind at 9Round? 9Rounders will say definitely not.
Since our workout formatted in a circuit, you can start anywhere in the circuit. Isn’t that great? “It’s a circuit, so I’m never late!” (Sorry that’s another blog.)
Back to warming up.
It is possible to do all the things we typically warm up for on any of the nine stations at 9Round. If rounds 1,2, and 3 are full and the trainer puts me on round 4 to start, I can warm up, i.e. increase my core body temp, increase circulation, and get my body ready to train harder while hitting the heavy bag. The warm up at 9Round is what we like to refer to as a “SELF-POLICING WARM UP.” Meaning, we have to listen to our body and our trainers and not try to be a “RAMBO” on the first round of the day.
Wherever the trainer says start for any particular workout, I should start off slow and then increase my intensity level as I feel my body heat up and the juices get flowing.
So there is a “WARM UP” round at 9Round and it is number one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine! You warm up wherever you start that day!
Have fun and keep kicking!
